Introduced from North East USA, this robur x alba cross has a crisp multi lobed leaf that sets it apart from its parents. Quercus bimondorum literally means Oak from ‘Two Worlds’, the robur part representing old UK and the alba part representing the new USA and it has been a naturally occurring hybrid for the best part of the last 100 years.
Thriving best on free draining lighter soils, Quercus bimondorum is a great parkland tree for an arboretum or as stand-alone specimen tree on an estate. Its green leaves turn to yellow and then hints of orange brown in the autumn before leaf fall. Rarely seen in this country, it is also a fine tree for collectors!
Mature height: 12-17m
