The Acer cappadocicum, commonly known as the Cappadocian Maple or Caucasian Maple, is a medium to large deciduous tree native to regions spanning from central Turkey through the Caucasus and the Himalayas to southwestern China.
This species typically forms a broad, rounded crown.
The leaves are opposite and palmately lobed with 5 to 7 pointed lobes, measuring 6–15 cm across. In autumn, the glossy green foliage transforms into a rich yellow, offering a striking display. Notably, the leaf stalks exude a milky sap when broken.
During early spring, the tree produces clusters of small yellow-green flowers, followed by winged seeds known as samaras.
The bark is greenish-grey and smooth in young trees, becoming shallowly grooved as it matures.
Acer cappadocicum thrives in moist, organically rich, and acidic soils, performing well in both full sun and partial shade.
This cultivar has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
