About this product

Field Maple, also known as Acer campestre, is a lovely round headed native tree, but we also have them available in pleached form with a clear stem of 1.8 metres and a flat frame crown 1.2m in diameter and 1 metre in height. This makes them ideal as stilted screening above fence height in small gardens where space is at a premium.

Tolerant in most free draining soils, Acer campestre Pleached turns a beautiful buttercup yellow autumn colour by late October. Pleached trees are a wonderful way of instantly achieving 3 metre of screening height without sacrificing width.

Field Maple has a remarkable ability to withstand air pollution. The bark of this tree is a light brown colour and has a flaky texture, while the twigs are slender and brown, gradually developing a cork-like feel as they mature. The Field Maple tree produces small grey leaf buds that grow on long stems.

Acer campestre has an impressive lifespan of up to 350 years.

They need to be pruned back to their framework each winter to retain their shape.

Mature height: 3m
