Product Details

Prunus Shirofugen is a beautiful pink flowering cherry that holds its display of flowers until as late as possible in spring.

This tree is one of the last cherries to produce its show of beautiful double white flowers, which gradually turn pink. In fact it is easy to assume that it is a different species from the beginning to end of the flowering period as the flowers are so different in colour.

The young foliage is coppery in colour, contrasting nicely with the turned pink flowers; it continues to turn to green then orange in the autumn time.

Prunus Shirofugen is a small tree which produces a fairly spreading shaped crown, considering its height. It was introduced by Ernest Wilson in the 1990s and won the Award of Garden Merit in 2002. Like many cherries, this tree will tolerate most soil and prefers well drained conditions.

This stunning tree is a great choice for maximising the return from a period of flowering; not only does it display white and pink flowers, but it also holds onto them for a very long time.

It produces a show which is rarely rivalled in other species of cherry. This beauty is considered by many as one of the best cherries available and it is hard to disagree with them!
