Juniperus communis Hibernica, also known as Irish Juniper, is a lovely small conifer which is perfect for small gardens and restricted spaces; it won the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2002 and was introduced in the late 1830’s.
This conifer has grey green scale like needles for foliage and produces a slender, dense crown as it matures, giving it a flame shape appearance.
Juniperus communis Hibernica will tolerate most soils with the exception of water logged ground, once mature it will tolerate some drought.
Irish Juniper is an interesting architectural conifer can be planted as part of rockeries and borders and a good feature specimen where space is restricted.
