Our new stock is growing! New stock will be available 1st September 2025.About this product
Ilex x altaclerensis Golden King, also known as Golden King Holly, was derived from a cutting taken from a holly tree in Edinburgh in the 1880s. It remains one of the best gold-variegated hollies available today.
It has smooth leaves rather than spiky ones, and its solid, slow growth forms a pyramidal shape at maturity, which makes it ideal for garden planting.
Ilex x altaclerensis Golden King thrives best on well-drained soils, and perversely, it is female rather than male, as its name would suggest.
Mature Height: 3-7m
