Known as Horned Holly or Chinese Holly, Ilex cornuta is a lush evergreen shrub that can make a small tree in time and, if left to its own devices.
Most often used as a hedging plant, Ilex cornuta provides a very dense screen, which is ideal for gardens.
Thriving on most free-draining soils, its shy white flowers give way to nicely-sized red fruits by the autumn for the birds to enjoy.
Underused in the UK, it is a more vigorous bet than our Common Holly.
