About this product

Betula pendula Purpurea, also known as the Purple Birch, is a slow-growing and rather rare tree with a slender habit and a white trunk at maturity.

Its leaves emerge red / purple in the spring and deepen to purple over the growing season.

It makes a fine garden tree, thriving on most well-drained soils and providing a wonderful contrast with its beautiful, coloured foliage.

Introduced into the UK in the 1870s, Betula pendula Purpurea is often found tucked away in tree collections.

Mature height: 7-12m
