Malus Bramley SeedlingAbout this product
Malus Bramley Seedling is a well-known cooking apple that produces very large green fruit in the autumn. It has been in cultivation for over 200 years and has won the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
It is an extremely common Cooking Apple throughout gardens and orchards in the UK. The Bramley Apple has small green elliptical leaves that are typical of Malus species. The small white, pink blushed flower is born around April and gives a wonderfully delicate display.
The large green fruits begin to appear as the summer progresses; they are usually ripe as September draws to a close. The apple itself is quite sour, and hence, it is generally cooked before it is eaten, producing a much lighter, tastier apple. Thus, it is a prime candidate for various pies, tarts, and crumbles in the autumn.
Like other Malus varieties, Malus Bramley Seedling performs well in heavier clay soils that are well drained.
This Apple is a long-lived, vigorous grower with a spreading crown. For fruit production, it is worth considering that the Bramley Seedling is triploid, meaning that it needs two other Apple trees in the vicinity to act as pollination partners. Malus Discovery, Malus Egremont Russet, Malus Elstar, Malus Golden Delicious, Malus Howgate Wonder, Malus James Grieve and Malus Laxton’s Superb are all pollination partners of Malus Bramley Seedling that we stock at Barcham Trees.
This tree is a great addition to any orchard or garden where fruit is on the menu! If you live in an area prone to rabbits or deer then we recommend rabbit guards for these trees.
