About this product

Malus Cox’s Orange Pippin, or Cox’s Orange Apple, is one of the nation’s favourite eating apples. The fruit of this tree is abundant, sweet and crunchy.

It was first produced in 1830 in Buckinghamshire by the retired brewer turned-horticulturalist John Cox. By the 1850s, it was commercially available.

This wonderful, edible fruiting variety of Malus produces a superb display of profuse white flowers in the springtime, followed by the added bonus of fruit in the autumntime. The foliage is mid-green, appearing at a similar time to the flower and persisting upon the tree until it turns lemon yellow in the autumn before falling

Like all Malus varieties, this tree will thrive on most soils, including clay. Malus Cox’s Orange Pippin is self-sterile; this means that it needs an alternative pollination partner nearby to produce fruit. The following Malus varieties are available from Barcham Trees and are considered useful for this purpose: Malus Discovery, Malus Egremont Russet, Malus Elstar, Malus Golden Delicious, Malus Howgate Wonder and Malus James Grieve.

This lovely tree must be included in any orchard scheme and for gardens that wish to be adorned with a reliable crop of delicious fruit each autumn!

If you live in an area prone to rabbits or deer, we recommend rabbit guards for these trees.
