Pruning back to the frame shape every winter provides an excellent stilted screening option above fence height for a small garden without losing out on any width of the outdoor space.

Liquidambar styraciflua Worplesdon is superb for its autumn colour display, with pretty maple-like leaves turning from yellow to claret from September to November.

It thrives on most free-draining soils and is the toughest of the Liquidambar range for the UK climate.
