Our new stock is growing! New stock will be available 1st September 2025.About this product
Liquidambar styraciflua, or Sweet Gum, is one of the finest trees for autumn colour. Its maple-like leaf is luscious and green throughout the summer and turns to stunning crimsons and yellows in the autumn.
Sweet Gum prefers well-drained, moist soils and can often be found in forests, bottomlands, and along riverbanks. It is adaptable to a variety of soil types but thrives best in acidic to neutral pH.
This specimen of Liquidambar styraciflua is trained into a pleach to integrate its fabulous autumn colour into restricted spaces. The crowns have been grown within a 1.8m square flat frame, and the trees have a clear trunk of 1.8 metres.
These trees are perfect for screening above fence height without taking up room in a garden where space is at a premium. Clipped to shape each spring, they form a wonderful architectural barrier restricting views from overlooking windows.
Note: We also offer a non-pleached version of Sweet Gum, ideal for those seeking a more traditional appearance.
