Liquidambar styraciflua multi stemOut of stock
Our new stock is growing! New stock will be available 1st September 2025.About this product
Liquidambar styraciflua, also known as Sweet Gum, is one of the finest trees for autumn colour. Introduced from its native Eastern USA in the 17th century, it won the equivalent of the Award of Garden Merit in 1975.
It is sometimes confused with maple on account of its similar leaves. However, it is unique from its cultivars in that it has attractive, corky bark, which is a feature at all times of the year.
Like other Sweet Gum varieties, this beautiful tree is at its magnificent best in autumn when it simply seems to burn with crimson and gold.
This particular product is a multi-stem version, ideal for creating a striking feature in gardens or landscapes. Multi-stem trees are also well-suited for use as natural privacy screens or to add a sense of density to planting schemes. We also offer a single-stem version of Liquidambar styraciflua, perfect for a more traditional look.
This tree is best planted where space allows and thrives in fertile, well-drained soils. Although it will tolerate most soil conditions, it does not thrive in chalky soils.
It is a super choice for planting in areas you wish to highlight during autumn.
