Hornbeam
Carpinus betulus LucasAbout this product
This clonal selection of Carpinus betulus is neater than its parent, producing a more compact and regular crown at maturity.
Carpinus betulus Lucas, or Hornbeam, is not fastigiate, though it may give that appearance when young. At maturity, it forms an oval crown.
Thriving on most free-draining soils, Carpinus betulus Lucas is particularly happy on heavier clay soils.
Hornbeam makes an excellent screening tree; being a native, it supports a range of wildlife.
Mature height: 7-12m
