Acer rubrum Red Sunset, also known as Franksred, was developed in the 1960s in America. Its vibrant leaves and broadly oval uniform habit make it a most attractive form of Red Maple, but its real show happens in the autumn when its green leaves turn a dramatic red.

Acer rubrum types like fertile, free-drained soils with trace elements including manganese. They also like it on the acid side of neutral to get the best leaf colour.
