Product details
Prunus kanzan is the signature pink flowering cherry popularly planted across the length and breadth of Britain.
It was introduced in the 1900s and has won numerous horticultural accolades over a number of years, including the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
This tree produces a profuse display of showy dark pink flowers in the spring, branded unfairly by some as garish. The foliage appears a coppery red colour, the leaves being fairly large and serrated on the margin, turning to brilliant oranges and coppery reds in the autumn time.
This is a particularly vigorous cherry, which has a vigorous root system that will perform well on all soil types, preferring well drained soils. If you are on a clay soil, why not consider a flowering Crab Apple, which will still give a great display of flower and be better suited to your soil conditions.
Providing it is not planted in paved areas, where its vigorous nature can cause interference. If you love pink blossom, you will not be disappointed with this tree!
Mature height: 7-12m
