Cherry Blossom Kanzan, Japanese Cherry
Prunus kanzan multi stemAbout this product
Prunus Kanzan is the signature pink flowering cherry popularly planted across Britain. This specific specimen is sold as a multi-stem tree, providing a fuller and more natural appearance. The multi-stem structure creates a bushier silhouette, ideal for adding a striking focal point and creating a sense of fullness in any garden landscape.
Introduced in the 1900s, Prunus Kanzan has earned numerous horticultural accolades, including the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2002. It produces a profuse display of showy dark pink flowers in spring, which some may unfairly deem as garish. The foliage emerges in a coppery red hue, with large, serrated leaves that transform into brilliant oranges and coppery reds in autumn.
This cherry tree is particularly vigorous, with a robust root system that performs well on all soil types, though it prefers well-drained soils. For those on clay soil, consider a flowering Crab Apple as an alternative, offering a great display of flowers better suited to those conditions.
Avoid planting it in paved areas, as its vigorous roots may interfere with the planting. If you love pink blossoms, the Prunus Kanzan will not disappoint!
We also offer a single-stemmed Prunus Kanzan, which is ideal for those seeking a more traditional appearance.
Mature height: 7-12m
