Japanese Cherry Kanzan, Cherry Blossom Kanzan
Prunus KanzanAbout this product
Prunus kanzan is the signature pink flowering cherry popularly planted across the length and breadth of Britain.
Introduced in the 1900s, it has won numerous horticultural accolades, including the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
This tree produces a profuse display of showy dark pink flowers in the spring, which some have unfairly branded garish. The foliage is a coppery red, reasonably large and serrated on the margin. In autumn, the leaves turn to brilliant oranges and coppery reds.
When young, this small to medium-sized tree is a bit columnar; however, it becomes more rounded as it matures.
This is a particularly vigorous cherry with a vigorous root system that will perform well on all soil types, preferring well-drained ones. If you are on clay soil, why not consider a flowering Crab Apple, which will still give a great display of flowers and better suit your soil conditions?
This beautiful cherry is an excellent choice for avenue planting. In the spring, it produces a glorious display of flowers.
It is also a good tree for introducing colour to gardens, provided it is not planted in paved areas where its vigorous nature can interfere.
If you love pink blossom, you will not be disappointed with this tree!
We also offer a multi-stemmed Prunus kanzan, which is well-suited for use as natural privacy screens or to add a sense of density to planting schemes.
