Product details

This tree has large bright green leaves that are deeply lobed and palmate, turning in the autumn time to a bright golden yellow. The fruit hang in spiky clusters and remain on the tree for most of the year, eventually withering away and falling to the ground.

Platanus x hispanica Alphens Globe has been introduced to make the most of the tough qualities of its parent, the London Plane, in restricted spaces.

This tree will tolerate extreme city conditions such as air pollution and smog and is also tolerant of hard pruning; it consists of a dwarfing clone grafted onto a Platanus x hispanica stem and produces a ball shaped crown comparable to Fraxinus ornus Maczek and Acer campestre Nanum.

A tough tree, capable of excelling in most soil conditions, being able to thrive on heavy clay soils and in urban environments.

This small tree is perfect for planting in areas that are unable to take a large tree. It can be planted for stilted screening or to give architectural uniformity and has been extensively planted as a street tree throughout Europe.

It is a lovely choice as a statement specimen in small gardens.

Mature height: 3-7m
