Dwarf London Plane. London Plane 'Alphens Globe'
Platanus x hispanica Alphens GlobeOut of stock
Our new stock is growing! New stock will be available 1st September 2025.About this product
This tree has large, bright green leaves that are deeply lobed and palmate. In autumn, they turn bright golden yellow. The fruit hangs in spiky clusters and remains on the tree for most of the year, eventually withering away and falling to the ground.
Platanus x hispanica Alphens Globe has been introduced to maximize the tough qualities of its parent, the London Plane, in restricted spaces.
This tree tolerates extreme city conditions such as air pollution and smog and is also tolerant of hard pruning. It consists of a dwarfing clone grafted onto a Platanus x hispanica stem and produces a ball-shaped crown comparable to Fraxinus ornus Maczek and Acer campestre Nanum.
A resilient tree that excels in most soil conditions and thrives in heavy clay soils as well as urban environments.
This small tree is perfect for planting in areas that cannot accommodate a large tree. It can be planted for stilted screening or to achieve architectural uniformity, and it has been extensively planted as a street tree throughout Europe.
It is a lovely choice as a statement specimen in small gardens.
Mature height: 3-7m
