Product details

Ostrya carpinifolia, or the Hop Hornbeam, produce creamy white flowers that resemble hops.

The foliage of this tree is bright green and ridged, similar to that of the Common Hornbeam, Carpinus betulus.

In the spring it produces an interesting display of yellow-green catkins coupled with the creamy white flowers resembling hops from whence it gets its name.

Our pleached Ostrya carpinifolia have 1.8m clear stems and are trained on a 1.2 x 1.2m panel.

Ostrya carpinifolia won the Award of Merit in 1976. It was introduced from Southern Europe and Western Asia in 1724 and produces a round crowned tree at maturity.

This is a very tough contender, thriving in most conditions.
