Mokum Crab Apple
Malus MokumAbout this product
Malus mokum is a lovely, dark flowering Crab Apple originating from Holland.
It is a stunning small tree that is often overlooked in favour of the more well-known varieties. This lovely Crab Apple has small leaves that emerge a dark, wine-red colour, along with rosy-red flowers that appear in late spring.
The fruits develop over the summer and are small and deep red in colour, which contrasts nicely with the leaves, which fade to green over time before turning yellow and falling.
Malus mokum forms an oval-headed tree at maturity. Like most Crab Apples, it will perform well in most soils, including heavy clay.
If you are looking for a flowering tree and have heavy clay soil, it is always best to choose a Crab apple over the more well-known Prunus (Cherry blossom) trees, as Crab apples will tolerate these conditions far more readily.
Malus mokum is a great selection for bringing some darker red/burgundy colour in spring. It works well with vivid greens for contrast.
If you live in an area prone to rabbits or deer then we recommend rabbit guards for these trees.
Mature Height: 3-7m
