Black Swan weeping purple beech
Fagus sylvatica Black SwanOut of stock
Our new stock is growing! New stock will be available 1st September 2025.About this product
This beautiful purple weeper has cascading branches covered with dark purple foliage throughout late spring and summer.
Similar to another clone, Purple Fountain, Fagus sylvatica Black Swan has larger leaves and a more regular habit.
Like all Fagus, free-draining loaming soil gives the best results, and the domed architectural shape of this tree at maturity makes it a great tree to see in a garden.
There aren’t many purple weeping trees on the market, and we rate this one to be the best. Also known as Weeping Purple Beech, Fagus sylvatica Black Swan is a great tree for providing contrast against a lighter background. However, take care to plant it on the extremity of your garden. Dark foliage draws the eye, so if it is at the forefront of your planting mix, you won’t readily notice what lies behind it.
Why do some trees hold onto their dead leaves?
Mature height: 12-17m
