About this product

Crataegus monogyna, known as Common Hawthorn, Quickthorn or the May Tree, is a very well-used hedgerow plant that can also develop into a small tree if left to its own devices.

White flowers are abundantly produced in May which yield small red fruits by the autumn which are very popular with birds.

Crataegus monogyna is a native tree and thrives on most soils, including heavy ones.

It reacts well to a severe prune if done when it is dormant and makes a fine garden tree.

Common Hawthorn thrives in both full sun and partial shade. This versatile tree can adapt to various light conditions, making it suitable for a range of garden settings. However, it may be susceptible to pests such as caterpillars, aphids, and gall mites, which can affect its growth and health. With an ultimate spread of 4–8 meters, Hawthorn makes a robust and attractive addition to landscapes, providing both aesthetic appeal and ecological benefits.
