Lime 'Glenleven', Linden

This Canadian hybrid has only recently begun to be grown commercially in Europe, so it remains an unusual variety that is not yet commonly seen across the UK.

It grows vigorously when young, with growth slowing as the tree matures. A large tree with a uniform ovate crown that becomes slightly more rounded with age, it has a straight trunk and strongly ascending branches, making it an excellent choice for avenue planting. It also performs well in urban environments and shows good resistance to heat.

The glossy, dark green leaves have roughly lobed edges and are smooth underneath. They retain their rich green colour until late in the season and often remain on the tree well into autumn.

Profuse clusters of tiny, fragrant yellowish flowers appear in summer and are highly attractive to pollinators. These are followed by small, rounded yellow-brown fruits accompanied by pale green bracts.

A strong and resilient cultivar, it is suitable for a wide range of soil types.
