About this product

Another German clone, Syringa vulgaris Ruhm von Horstenstein (Purple Lilac Tree), has existed since the early 1930s.

This blue/purple flowerer is a robust plant ideal for more exposed gardens where it can explode into floral colour in spring to lift the garden into summer.

Perfect for full sun or dappled shade, its dark green oval leaves thrive in small gardens in summer before turning yellow in autumn.

Syringa vulgaris Ruhm von Hortenstein is one of many Lilac clones but represents our second blue/purple offering within our range.

In our view, if a variety has lasted for the best part of 100 years, it has got to be a safe bet! Its stiffly ascending branch network forms a tidy multi-stemmed tree that can be accommodated within a small garden space. If needed, a winter prune can always keep it in check.

Mature height: 3-5m
