About this product

Syringa vulgaris Ludwig Spath (Lilac Tree) grows anonymously throughout the year but truly stands out in May and June when its fragrant floral display is in full swing. That’s not to say they are boring plants when not in flower; their rich green foliage and bushy form make them an ideal choice of small tree for a garden where you are struggling to get height but don’t want too much height!

This old variety is one of many on the market and has been around since the 1880s, when it was bred by the then-well-known Spath nursery in Berlin, Germany.

Its fantastic, sweetly-scented pink/purple flowers stand out in any late spring / early summer garden.

Syringa vulgaris Ludwig Spath is easily maintained and can be ruthlessly pruned in the winter if necessary.

Thriving on most free-draining soils, Its oval leaves turn yellow in the autumn.

Mature height: 3-5m
