Black Elder
Sambucus nigra Black LaceAbout this product
Sambucus nigra Black Lace, also known as Black Elder, is supplied as small 1.5-2m tall in 35l containers. What a knockout plant this is!
Part of the Elder family, this selection has fine purple/black leaves that are heavily cut and provide beautiful contrast within a small garden as it can be routinely pruned in the winter to keep it from growing too large.
It will make a small bushy tree if left alone, but is more often seen as a shrub that produces pink tinged white elder flowers in mid-summer that contrasts wonderfully with its deeper coloured foliage.
So to recap, cut leaf, foliage colour to die for, a great floral display and suitable for a small garden!
Sambucus nigra Black Lace will grow on most soils, and its dark foliage softens to red before leaf fall in the autumn.
Trees of this colour are always the first to draw the eye in any garden space, so always plant on the extremity of your plot.
