False Acacia 'Nyirsegi'
Robinia pseudoacacia NyirsegiAbout this product
This vigorous and hardy cultivar of Hungarian origin is a fast-growing tree with a strong, upright habit when young. Its ascending branches gradually spread as the tree matures, eventually forming an ovate crown with a width of around half its overall height.
Clusters of small, creamy-coloured flowers appear in June, although the flowering period can be relatively short. The compound leaves are dark blue-green and made up of small leaflets, which help the tree tolerate periods of drought by reducing moisture loss.
The tree develops a straight trunk with olive-green to brown twigs and grey-brown bark that becomes deeply grooved with age. Like the species, both the branches and trunk can carry large thorns, so care should be taken when handling or working around the tree.
Suitable for a wide range of planting sites where space permits, this cultivar produces relatively few legumes and is rated to hardiness zone 5a.
