Robinia pseudoacacia Bessoniana, known as Thornless False Acacia, is perhaps the pick of the Robinia cultivars.
The soft green leaves that emerge late in spring are pleasing on the eye when the crown is immature but like all Robinia it develops into an untidy haphazard affair with its brittle limbs prone to braking out at maturity.
Its thornless stems and smattering of white flower are redeeming features.
Robinia pseudoacacia Bessoniana are not suitable for gardens as they are budded onto Robinia pseudoacacia rootstock that can sucker.
