About this product

The Shingle Oak, also known as Quercus imbricaria, was introduced from North America in the 1780s.

Its name derives from its use for roof tiles, “shingles”, in its native land.

The USA national champion is in Ohio and stands over 35 metres in height with a crown over 23 metres across, so it is not for the faint-hearted!

A medium to large vigorous tree, Quercus imbricaria has a pyramidal habit and shiny dark green leaves, which turn golden and sometimes even orange in the autumn.

Ideal for parks or estates, it grows best in moist, well-drained, deep, fertile, acid soils and prefers full sun.

Mature height 17-22m
