About this product

Bred by Mr. Wildeman at Gorinchem in the first half of the 18th century and marketed around 1850, Pyrus communis Gieser Wildeman is a weakly growing pear tree with a stocky, semi-open crown. This European cooking pear variety features vibrant grey-green foliage in summer and beautiful white flowers in spring.

The tree produces small, wide pears in late summer with brownish-yellow skin and pale yellow-orange flesh, perfect for stewing. While the pears are ready for picking from mid-September to early October, they are unsuitable for direct consumption and are best enjoyed in crumbles and other cooked dishes.

This self-pollinating variety benefits from cross-pollination and thrives in free-draining, moisture-retentive soils. We recommend maintaining a one-meter mulch ring around the base to promote larger fruit size to limit grass and weed competition.

Mature height: 5-8m
