Introduced from its native Japan in 1890 this is widely regarded as one of the loveliest of flowering cherries – and with the advantage of its blossom usually being ignored by bullfinches.
A winner of numerous accolades culminating in the Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
A superb small tree of rounded habit and a great choice for gardens parks and streets.
It bears abundant single pink flowers in March and April and is one of the first to take on its autumn tints of orange and crimson which complement its chestnut-brown bark so effectively.
