Our new stock is growing! New stock will be available 1st September 2025.About this product
Prunus laurocerasus 'Novita' is a newer variety of cherry laurel that closely resembles Rotundifolia, but with added hardiness. At Barcham Trees, we cultivate 'Novita' as both a bush for hedging and as standards or pleached forms for screening purposes. These specimens feature a 1.8-meter clear stem and frames measuring 1.2 meters wide by 1 meter high, making them ideal for creating an attractive screen above fence lines.
The foliage of this pleached Cherry Laurel is green, glossy, and a little darker than the Rotundifolia, which makes if perfect as a dense screen, even more so when kept well-pruned.
Like the common Cherry Laurel, Novita does flower, however not so much as a young tree, giving much more floriferous displays of white flowers with age.
Prunus laurocerasus Novita can be planted at anywhere from 1 to 2m centres, depending on how instant you would like to form your screen. The distance often needs to be a balance between how much you are looking to spend and the instant impact of the screen. The optimum distance is usually somewhere around 1.2-1.5m spacing.
This pleached Cherry Laurel is a tough contender and can thrive on most soils, however it does prefer deep and fertile planting sites that are not prone to water-logging.
As with all evergreen trees and hedges, be careful not to prune too early or late in the season; new growth, which is encouraged after pruning, must have a chance to harden up before being exposed to cold temperatures.
Mature height: 3-5m
