About this product

These specimens are supplied in 100L containers.

This large pine was introduced from Southern Italy in the mid-1750s and is a sturdy tree for exposed coastal plantings. Its long wispy evergreen needles are tinged yellow when juvenile and are great at diffusing wind on exposed sites. Pinus maritima grows on most free draining soils and can put on up to 60cm of extension growth between May and July when established. As with all pines, they jettison leaves set in previous years in the late summer as their new flushes take over. This can be alarming to the uninitiated as it looks like the tree is suffering inside out but it is nothing to worry about, even evergreen leaves must perish at some point. Best for larger gardens and exposed parkland. Mature height: 17-22m
