Persian Ironwood 'Persian Spire'
Parrotia persica Persian SpireAbout this product
A good choice for a smaller space, Persian Spire is an upright variety to around 6m in height remaining smaller than its parent and fellow cultivar ‘Vanessa’.
For interest spanning much of the year this is an excellent tree.
Small unconventional flowers with prominent red anthers can begin opening on the bare branches from late winter into early spring whilst most trees in the landscape are still peacefully sleeping.
Leaves then emerge a purple-red before hardening to green in the centre, with a rich purple margin remaining through the growing season.
Last but not least, the leaves put on their autumn show displaying oranges, reds and yellows.
There is also the pale, flaky bark which remains with the tree throughout, improving with age.
Preferring full sun, this hardy tree can be planted on any soil if there is no water logging.
