About this product

Malus Royalty, commonly known as Crab Apple Royalty, is an upright crab bred in Canada in the early 1950s. Royalty has a broadly columnar form due to its ascending branches. This small tree features shiny, rich purple foliage that transforms into a vivid red in autumn. Its large purple-crimson flowers give rise to dark red fruits.

The foliage is exceptionally dark, so it's advisable not to plant too many of these trees, as their dark leaves tend to draw attention to a landscape, and an excess of them can create a rather sombre atmosphere in a garden. Like most crabs, it is suitable for parks and gardens.

A full sun lover, this tree is easily grown in moderately fertile, well-drained soils and once established, it is drought-tolerant. It requires only minimal pruning in late winter to remove damaged, diseased, or misplaced growth.

If you live in an area prone to rabbits or deer, we recommend using rabbit guards for these trees.

Mature height: 3-7m
