Merrill Magnolia

This great tree is hard to beat for a pure white flowering Magnolia.

Its superb floral display starts in April when velvety flower buds open to expand into simple, pure white flowers that smother the plant when in full cry. Emerging green leaves come slightly later and take over in May.

The Magnolia loebneri Merrill is an excellent choice as a multi-stemmed shrubby tree and shows greater tolerance for slightly alkaline soils. Multi-stem trees are also well-suited for use as natural privacy screens or to add a sense of density to planting schemes. We also offer a single-stem version of the tree, ideal for those seeking a more traditional appearance.

It thrives best on free-draining land and establishes quicker if competing grass and plants are kept at least a one-metre radius away from its stem.

Its green leaves turn to clear yellow in the autumn before dropping in November.
