Elizabeth Magnolia
Magnolia x brooklynensis ElizabethAbout this product
Magnolia Brooklynensis Elizabeth is a stunning small Magnolia tree that, as the name suggests, was raised in New York in the 1970s by Eva Maria Sperbes. It is a cross between Magnolia acuminata and denudate.
This beautiful Magnolia has superb bright yellow, cup-shaped flowers that open over time and are nicely fragrant. The foliage emerges later than the flower, forming fairly large, bright green leaves that remain on the tree until they turn yellows and browns in the autumntime.
Magnolia Brooklynensis Elizabeth is a fairly new introduction, so little is known about its eventual shape and vigour. At Barcham, we grow this beauty as a multi-stemmed bush, which maximises the flowering potential in spring!
This species will tolerate most well-drained soils, and the flowers tend to be deeper yellow in colour in slightly cooler positions.
Like all Magnolias, the flowers can be damaged by frost, so a more sheltered position is recommended. It is important to ensure that this Magnolia is placed so that the brilliant flower colour can be admired in the spring.
It is perfect for small gardens and will bring spring cheer to liven up the garden after a hard winter.
