Product details
Magnolia Brooklynensis Elizabeth is a stunning small Magnolia tree which, as the name suggests, was raised in New York in the 1970’s by Eva Maria Sperbes. It is a cross between Magnolia acuminata and denudata.
This beautiful Magnolia has superb bright yellow, cup shaped flowers that open over time and are nicely fragrant. The foliage emerges later than the flower, forming fairly large, bright green leaves that remain on the tree until they turn yellows and browns in the autumn time.
Magnolia Brooklynensis Elizabeth is a fairly new introduction, therefore there is not much known about its eventual shape and vigour, at Barcham we grow this beauty as a multi-stemmed bush, this maximises the flowering potential in spring!
This species will tolerate most soils that are well drained and the flowers tend to be deeper yellow in colour in slightly cooler positions.
Like all Magnolia the flowers can be damaged by frost, so a more sheltered position is recommended. It is important to ensure that this Magnolia is placed so that the brilliant flower colour can be admired in the spring time.
It is perfect for small gardens and will bring spring cheer to liven up the garden at the end of a hard winter.
Mature Height: 3-7m
