From Japan, this Magnolia is very hardy and versatile. Unlike the other magnolias we supply, this only flowers at its full potential after about 15 years but as we supply them well over five years old so it isn’t too long to wait!
In between time you will have a decent display rather than a sensational one. The very large, white flowers are produced as early as March and can reach up to 10cm across.
We grow this medium size, round headed tree as a full standard, and recommend it for planting on verges and in parkland. It can also be a nice addition to a large garden where it has space to reach its full potential.
Magnolia Kobus does well in most soils, including chalky ones however as with many trees it requires the soils to be free-draining.
This is definitely the best choice for neutral to high ph soils.
