About this product

Magnolia grandiflora Galissonniere, also known as Southern Magnolia, is a fantastic, profusely flowering, evergreen tree.

The foliage of this evergreen beauty is quite remarkable. It is dark green and leathery, with a brown underside that creates an interesting contrast. The stunning flowers, which bear a light fragrance, appear in mid-to-late summer and remain until early autumn.

This variety tends to be selected over the species as it produces a more showy display of flowers. Magnolia grandiflora Galissonniere was introduced from the USA in 1734 and is well-known in its native North Carolina, Florida, Arkansas, and Texas.

This typically medium-sized tree, with a round-headed canopy, can grow quite large when provided with full sun and a sheltered location. With the gradual increase in warmer weather across Southern England, this evergreen species has thrived remarkably well in the country's southern regions.

The Southern Magnolia prefers rich, fertile soil and will tolerate a little lime.

This super medium to large tree is an excellent choice for screening above a fence line and makes a superb feature specimen for planting in a garden or large parkland.

We also offer a multi-stemmed Magnolia grandiflora Gallissonniere, which is well-suited for use as natural privacy screens or to add a sense of density to planting schemes.

Mature height: 7-12m

Note: Our instant-size Magnolia grandiflora Galissonniere trees are approximately 4.5m tall, and large specimens are 3-3.5m tall.
