Our new stock is growing! New stock will be available 1st September 2025.About this product
Liriodendron tulipifera Aureomarginata, or Variegated Tulip Tree, has large, smooth-lobed leaves with dark green centres and distinct variegated edges. The variegation fades by late summer, and the leaves turn golden yellow in autumn.
Like the species, the most notable feature of this tree is the curious, large, green-yellow tulip-shaped flowers produced in June and July, and unlike its parent, this tree tends to produce flowers at an early age; we regularly see medium-sized trees on the Barcham Trees nursery in flower.
Liriodendron tulipifera Aureomarginata was introduced into the UK in the early 1900s and produces a smaller tree at maturity than the species that is also pyramidal in shape.
Unlike some ornate specimen trees, this variety is wind-resistant and will thrive on most well-fertile soils.
This medium-sized tree is a good choice for parkland settings yet small enough to be included in garden planting schemes.
This tree can bring a unique colour to a planting scheme in a measured amount without becoming too overpowering at maturity.
It is best planted against a dark backdrop to exaggerate the variegated foliage.
Mature height: 12-17m
