Hedging Privet
Ligustrum ovalifoliumAbout this product
Ligustrum ovalifolium, or the Hedging Privet, has been a mainstay of British hedging since the early 1900s.
It is tough, evergreen, and, most importantly, very resilient to growing back after severe pruning. It can drop leaves in very harsh winters but generally provides evergreen screening all year round.
White fluffy flowers are produced in late summer, and it thrives on most free-draining soil types.
Like most evergreen hedging plants, Ligustrum ovalifolia is best pruned between March and June. If it is trimmed back in late summer, it has no time to furnish itself with a new flush of leaves before winter sets in, which can weaken the plant over its dormant period.
It is one of the easiest hedges to maintain.
Mature height: 3-5m
