About this product

Lagerstroemia indica Violacea, or Violet Crape Myrtle, is a lovely garden tree known for its late summer flowers, stunning autumn foliage, and year-round bark interest. This deciduous tree is highly valued for its striking aesthetic and versatility in various garden settings.

It produces stunning clusters of violet to purple flowers that attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The blooms last for several weeks, providing a vibrant display during the warmer months. In autumn, its glossy green leaves transform into breathtaking shades of orange, red, and purple, adding to its ornamental value throughout the seasons.

Even in winter, Lagerstroemia indica Violacea remains a standout feature thanks to its smooth, mottled bark, which displays a beautiful mix of brown, grey, and cream tones.

Thriving best in free-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soils, it prefers a south-facing, sheltered position within a garden and benefits from the reflected heat bouncing off walls and patios. Once established, it can tolerate some drought, making it a relatively low-maintenance choice.

Lagerstroemia indica Violacea has an architectural beauty rarely surpassed in a garden setting and is a favourite here at Barcham!
