Manna Ash

Fraxinus ornus

About this product

The Manna Ash, or Flowering Ash, has been cultivated in Britain since before 1700. Its stems produce a sweet sap, known as manna, which is used to make a natural laxative. Native to Southern Europe and Southwest Asia, it was awarded the prestigious Award of Garden Merit in 2002.

This ash variety grows relatively slowly and eventually forms a rounded, medium-sized tree. In late spring, it blooms abundantly with clusters of creamy white, fragrant flowers. In autumn, its foliage brings a vibrant display, turning shades of yellow, red, and orange. It thrives best in dry, calcareous, sandy, or loamy soils and is especially well-suited for urban planting.

Mature heigt: 12-17m
