Arizona Cypress 'Fastigiata'
Cupressus arizonica FastigiataAbout this product
As the name suggests, this conifer is native to North America and is found naturally in Arizona. A compact, narrow tree, it can still reach an impressive mature height, so its relatively small size at supply should not be misleading. Although some people use it for topiary, it is not a tree to tuck into a small shrub border.
The foliage is blue-green and slightly fluffy in appearance, with scale-like leaves produced on rounded shoots. Its evergreen nature gives the tree year-round interest.
Tiny yellow male cones and larger, rounded female cones may be produced, although cone production can be reduced on this fastigiate selection or may become more abundant as the tree matures.
Well adapted to arid conditions, Arizona cypress 'Fastigiata' prefers a position in full sun and does not tolerate waterlogged ground. It can grow in chalk, clay, loam or sandy soils and is best suited to a sheltered position. It is rated H4 for hardiness and typically develops a spread of around 4-8m.
Mature height: 20m
