Golden Leyland Cypress
Cupressocyparis leylandii CastlewellanAbout this product
Cupressocyparis leylandii Castlewellan, commonly known as the Golden Leyland Cypress, is a fast-growing hedging conifer bred in County Down during the 1960s. Its striking golden-yellow foliage gives it the distinct "Gold" nickname, making it an attractive choice for hedges, privacy screens, and windbreaks.
Although it can reach heights of 25 meters or more, Castlewellan grows slower than the ordinary green Leyland Cypress, making it easier to manage. Its evergreen foliage provides year-round greenery, adding colour and structure to any landscape. Thriving even in poor or exposed conditions, it is a hardy, low-maintenance option for most well-drained soils.
Prune in April or May for best results to maintain the desired shape and size. Avoid cutting into older wood, as it won’t regrow. Whether pruned to create a neat, clean form or left to develop a more natural look, this versatile conifer offers flexibility to suit various landscaping needs.
Mature Height: 7-12m
