Product details
This garden favourite was given recognition in the late 1960s by the Royal Horticultural Society and has remained popular ever since. Although many classify this as a shrub it will mature into a small four to five metre tree it left alone.
Its smooth oval / rounded leaves are a deep purple throughout the summer but its ‘hairy’ floral display is a wonderful addition to its interest and contrast. Thriving on most well drained soils it prefers a sheltered position with good light level.
Perfect for a small garden, it’s vibrant foliage display is very dependable each summer and is great when planted in between Betula utilis Jacquemontii so show off the contrasting white birch stems and trunk.
Cotinus coggogria Royal Purple is easily kept in check with a winter prune and shape up if required.
Mature height: 3-7m
