Purple-leaved Turkish hazel
Corylus colurna Te-Terra RedOut of stock
Our new stock is growing! New stock will be available 1st September 2025.About this product
Corylus colurna Te-Terra Red is a unique variety of Turkish Hazel. While it matures to a smaller size than its parent plant, it is far more striking in appearance!
Fresh red-coloured leaves emerge in the spring and then harden to a purple/green colour by mid-summer. Pink catkins are produced in February/March, and the young thickening trunk has a hint of purple before it matures into a rough textured brown.
It is a relatively slow-growing clone that makes a fine garden tree and offers lots of year-round interest. It will thrive in most free-draining soil types. Red husks hold the promise of pink cobnuts, but this tree is rarely fertile, so they are only for ornamental purposes.
