About this product
The USA champion is 35 metres tall by 48 metres wide but don’t let this put you off as it will never attain this in the UK! This majestic tree has a symmetric broadly oval crown and long compound dark green leaves, regularly composed of over a dozen leaflets. It grows best on deep well drained soils that retains a good moisture content throughout the summer. Introduced in the early 1760’s it never delivers the quantity of fruit that it bears in its native north America but where soil conditions allow it is a great addition for parkland and arboretum planting here in the UK.
Like Quercus petraea, it is best suited for the wetter south western half of Britain, but should be given enough room, about 20 metres, for it to thrive without competition.
