About this product

Camellia sasanqua, or Camellia Yuletide, is a small-growing evergreen tree introduced from China in the early 1800’s.

The evergreen leaves are small, dark green, and glossy, and they contrast perfectly with the glorious pink-scented flowers that appear in spring and autumn. In fact, the Christmas/Yuletide Camellia's common name has been derived due to this species' propensity to produce flowers very early in the season, sometimes around Christmas time!

At Barcham, we grow Camellia sasanqua as a standard tree on a clear stem between 1.8-2m, which allows this tree some potential as a screening tree in small gardens.

Like many evergreens, this small beauty prefers well-drained soil, and this species is particularly acid-loving.

The Yuletide Camellia is best planted in a sheltered spot in Southern England, as it does not perform well in cold winter winds.

Camellia sasanqua is unusual as a tree, making it a great selection for arboretum collections or sunny, south-facing gardens that need some brightness to enlighten them in the gloomy winter months.

Mature height: 3-7m
