Product Details

Sorbus aucuparia Edulis is a cultivar of Rowan tree that produces bright orange-red edible berries that can be used to make Rowan Jelly.  Sorbus aucuparia is our native Mountain Ash, with Edulis thought to have been introduced during the 1800’s.  It is sometimes also listed as ‘Dulcis’ and ‘Moravica’.

Generally the Rowan cultivars are quite similar in foliage, producing a dark green, compound leaf that comprises of 4-9 pairs of leaflets.  The leaves of this cultivar are slightly larger than that of the species. The flowers are produced from May to June and are creamy white in colour, appearing in clusters.  The fruits are large for Moutain Ash and are also produced in clusters, first appearing green and gradually ripening throughout the summer time to a bright orange-red colour.

Sorbus aucuparia Edulis is a tough and hardy tree, tending to prefer cooler spots that are not in very warm, hard paved areas.  It will thrive on most soil types and forms a broadly oval shape at maturity

Mountain Ash are a good choice for gardens, bringing year round interest and food for not only the birds, but for the humans too!

If you live in an area prone to rabbits or deer then we recommend rabbit guards for these trees.
